Rhys Morgan appointed MAGICIANS Head Coach

Canterbury Cricket are excited to announce the appointment of Rhys Morgan as the Canterbury MAGICIANS Head Coach for the 2020/21 season.

Morgan, a former first class cricketer for Wellington, was a standout candidate demonstrating the knowledge, experience and skills that make him an excellent fit for the role.

Morgan boasts an impressive coaching resume from Cricket Wellington having coached their Under 19 Men and Woman as well as the Wellington A Women’s side.

He is also no stranger to coaching at an international level after having experience as Head Coach for Fiji in their Men, Woman and U19 sides as well as being a batting consultant for the Bangladesh test team.

Morgan said he’s looking forward to linking up with the MAGICIANS next month.

“I’m really excited to move south and get stuck into it,’’ he said.

“I think the MAGICIANS are a side with huge potential and I’m looking forward to playing my part and seeing how well they can do.

“The team showed encouraging signs in the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield last season, so we know the talent is there.

“My goal is to make a positive difference on everyone’s game, and if I can do that, then I’m sure we’ll see some good results along the way.”

Canterbury Cricket High Performance Manager Marty Croy said he delighted that such a high calibre coach was joining the MAGICIANS.

“I feel that Rhys’ coaching experience and the qualities he brings to the table with regards to his coaching skillset is going to be valuable for this side,” he said.

“Rhys understands what it takes to coach at different development levels, across both male and female environments.

“His experience in the women’s game, as well as his proven ability to create learning environments that progress individual talent and promote team success is an exciting prospect for the MAGICIANS.”

Morgan will officially begin his new role on the 1st of September.
