The Summer of cricket is only weeks away and we are pleased to have secured 11 days of International cricket at Hagley this season.
We are proud and excited to receive the Boxing Day match at Hagley for the fifth year running. This year Sri Lanka are returning for a Boxing Day Test before Hagley gets a Christmas off in 2019-20 due to the BLACKCAPS playing in the Boxing Day test at the MCG against Australia.
Bangladesh are also heading to our shores and coming to the Garden City for an ODI and a Test Match. The only ODI to come to Christchurch this Summer will no doubt be a hit and historically speaking this will be a sell out and a great spectacle for the fans.
The final international match is like last year – a test match. Who can forget the final Test Match of the Summer last year against the English, what a success it was on and off the field. Bangladesh will again feature at Hagley for the final match at Hagley.
NZC Chief Executive David White states, “Hagley Oval is one of the most scenic and best-equipped cricket grounds in the country, and is an ideal venue for the Boxing Day Test. It’s also been the scene for some riveting short-form games – which I’m sure will continue with the ODI against Bangladesh.”
The BLACKCAPS have an exceptional short history at Hagley Oval since the redevelopment in 2014. Out of the 13 matches held at Hagley the BLACKCAPS have lost just twice (5 Tests – Won 3, Lost 1, Draw 1. 8 ODIs – Won 7, Lost 1). A fantastic record we hope to continue this season.
