Coaching development with Bob Carter tonight

Monday, 26 July 2010

Calling all coaches in the Canterbury area. Are you keen to develop yourself as a leader; learn new skills for coaching and be taught by one of the most influential coaches in the region?

If that’s the case then ensure you come along to the Cricket Express Centre of Excellence at Canterbury Cricket tonight to participate in a coaching session about batting run by Canterbury Wizards coach Bob Carter.

Every year Canterbury Cricket runs sessions for coaches. The main goal of the workshops is to develop coaches and ensure they are all singing from the same song book. Nigel Marsh, Canterbury Cricket’s CoachForce Manager, said when a player first starts participating in the game they may have up to five or six coaches a year, so it’s important there is consistency in coaching through the region. But at the same time ensure coaches have their own unique style of coaching.

“We want to teach the same message to all the coaches. It’s the key. We’ve spent a lot of time putting a curriculum together and we have core coaching criteria that coaches need to focus on,” he said.

The evening with Bob Carter is the second workshop for coaches this year. Carter will be passing on his wealth of knowledge about batting to the workshop participants. “We do about a 30 minute talk and go over the key components then we practice coaching them with a group of year 9s using the core curriculum competencies as the basis for his session,” Marsh said.

The evening is open to any coach who is keen on developing their skills; however it is more suited to hard-ball cricket. “We will be focusing on hard ball and if there’s anyone out there who aspires to be a coach then they are most welcome to attend,” Marsh said.
