Womens Cricket Webpage

Welcome to the new webpage for Women’s Cricket in Canterbury.

Women’s Cricket has progressed and transformed a great deal since the inception of the Canterbury Girls Cricket Association in 1931.

In the early years a sub-committee was elected to draw up a constitution with playing uniforms to be white frocks, white shoes and stocking with club badges and tie. Dress then developed to long sox’s with a culottes style skirt, and we now see female players dress in pants and shirts, similar to the male players.

The representative competition has development from a week long tournament, where players had to fund costs themselves, to the National one day and Twenty20 leagues of today.

Early International tours were made by boat, with the first women’s team that headed to England taking four weeks to get there.  The ease of travel has certainly changed the way things are done now.

The website is an opportunity to open communication to all female players around Canterbury.  If you have any interesting stories, anecdotes or pictures from your games you can e-mail these to me and they will be added to the website.

Representative squads will be listed on the site, and we will update the outcome of all Magicians fixtures on a regular basis.

This website is for all past and present players, so help us spread the good word by informing your friends about the page.
