Y9 Boys

To be eligible for selection you must be in Y9 during 2011. Players will not be considered to be Y10 players until they start school in 2012.

Trials:

The representative cricket programme for Y9 Metro boys begins on Sunday 2 Oct with trials at the Canterbury Cricket Community Training Centre, located at the Action Indoor Sports complex at 81 Buchanans Rd, Hornby. You can nominate yourself for a trial by clicking on the link at the end of this section.

The trials take the form of a net session where all the players who have nominated themselves are assessed on their skills. The trials last for 1 hour with sessions starting at 4pm, 5pm, 6pm and 7pm. Players should come dressed in their cricket whites and bring their full cricket kit.

From these trials we select six teams (72 players) to contest the Y9 Metro Trial Series. The teams to play in the Metro Trial Series will be announced on the Underage Page of the Canterbury Cricket website before 5pm on Monday 10 October 2011.

Y9 Metro Trial Series:

The Y9 Metro Trial Series will be played on grass pitches at Ilam Fields on Sunday 6, 13 and 20 November 2011. They will be 45 over games starting at 10am.

The games in the Y9 Metro Trial Series feature some innovative playing conditions to ensure that all participants get an opportunity to show the selectors their skills. Some of those playing conditions are:

Ø      Batting Pods: Players will bat in ‘pods’ during the series. This means that over the three games all players will have an opportunity to bat in the top order, the middle order and the lower order.

Ø      Over Limits: Bowlers will be restricted to 7 overs per match maximum. So if an innings lasts all 45 overs then at least 7 bowlers must be used.

Ø      Guaranteed Minimum Overs: All players who wish to be trialed as a bowler must bowl at least 9 overs during the Metro Trial Series (subject to change if weather or unforeseen circumstances make this impossible).

From the Metro Trial Series we will select three Y9 Christchurch Metro Teams to represent Christchurch at the Y9 Canterbury Cricket Regional Tournament. Those teams will be announced on the Underage Page of the Canterbury Cricket Website before 5pm on Wednesday 23 October 2011.

Y9 Canterbury Regional Tournament:

The Y9 Canterbury Regional Tournament will be played in Christchurch (actual venues tbc) from Monday 19 December to Thursday 22 December. The tournament will feature 8 teams; 3 x Christchurch Metro Teams, Mid Canterbury, South Canterbury, Canterbury Country, West Coast and Buller.

The format will be mainly 50 over games, with potentially some T20 games as well. The winner of this tournament will be crowned the champion Y9 team for the 2011/12 season and will receive a trophy.

At the end of the Y9 Canterbury Regional Tournament the Canterbury Y9 Team to play Wellington will be announced. At this time (or shortly after) a Y9 Christchurch Metro Team will also be named to contest a Tri-Series in January 2012.

Y9 Christchurch Metro Tri-Series Team:

The Y9 Tri-Series will be played from Monday 16 January 2012 to Wednesday 18 January 2012. The purpose of the Tri-Series is to extend those cricketers who the selectors believe have the potential to play at a higher level, but were not lucky enough to be selected for the Y9 Canterbury Team.

The Y9 Christchurch Metro Tri-Series Team will be chosen from the best performed Y9 Christchurch Metro Players at the Y9 Canterbury Tournament who were NOT picked for the Y9 Canterbury Team.

These will be 50 over games and the Christchurch Metro Team will play against a Canterbury Regions Team (made up of players from Canterbury Country, West Coast and Buller) and a Southern Districts (made up of players from Mid Canterbury and South Canterbury). The teams will play on two out of the three days at various venues around Canterbury.

Y9 Canterbury Team:

From the Y9 Canterbury Regional Tournament 12 players will be chosen to represent Canterbury in the Y9 Canterbury Cricket Team.

The team will travel to Wellington for a two day game and a 50 over game against the Wellington Y9 Cricket Team on Monday 23 January 2012 to Wednesday 25 January 2012.

This is the pinnacle of the Y9 Canterbury Representative season and we wish all the players selected the very best of luck for the games against Wellington.
